There’s a bit more to the “Black Hebrews” phenomenon than the JVL article lets on. And contrary to what someone else said, there are not tens of thousands of them, they are extreme minorities within Black Christianity.

The longest Christian denominational names that I’m aware of are from “Hebrew Pentecostals”, out of the Holiness tradition, that date back to 1903. (The “Black Hebrews” that took up in Israel came out of the 60s and have more in common with the Rastafarians, so the idea is much older than them — the rest make no claim to right of return.) You can tell them by their “House of God” or “Church of the Living God” monikers.

Anyway, I’m no fan of either the “Black Hebrews”/Black Hebrew Israelite antisemitic cranks, or the House of God International/Church of the Living God groups, but tmk it’s still not clear just WHAT sect these murderous whackjobs who killed that baby are out of. None of them would surprise me, tbf.
