If the markers actually are the same, that’s my guess as well—Spanish ancestors who themselves had Jewish ancestors.

Which reminds me of the character from New Mexico in “Dirty Girls Social Club”, who, when people mention that despite her claims of entirely Spanish ancestry, she looks a little Pueblo, tells them, “We have some Moorish blood.”
