My Facebook feed has been full of “Meanwhile in Minnesota” memes where it’s making fun of how people who live in warmer climes respond to snow and cold, and there’s the Minnesotans, out grilling hamburgers in 2 feet of snow and -40 (degrees F or C) wind chill.

I spent a year at the Arctic Warfare Training Center at Ft. Greely Alaska. About 100 miles from Fairbanks, in what the Army determined was the coldest part of the state that you could still get to by road year round. We had 2 weeks where we didn’t see -20 for a high, and a month where we didn’t see 0 for a high.

So when they whine down here in TN, I just sort of chuckle.
