I remember Ronald Reagan telling us that “you cannot solve social problems by throwing more money at them.”
But when it comes to military hardware and weapons systems, the more we spend, the “better” it is for our military. And a $90 hammer and a $40,000 coffee machine are signs that we care about our service people to give them the very best equipment…
That has always been my problem with the conservative economic approach. It also throws a wrench into Reagan’s other one “Government is the problem.” Of course, as you know, the government’s size under Reagan went up big time.
