I was at the tail-end of “duck and cover and kiss your ass good-bye” drills.

Said generation: Half are terrified of anything to do with radiation, and the other half can’t wait to pitch a bunch of nukes at the next nation that dares look at the USA cross-eyed.

I believe you’re my age.

My elementary school was full of smartasses, with smartass parents, and we sneered and snorted at the idea “duck and cover” would be worthwhile against nukes. But the teacher was smart enough to point out that yeah, probably true, so we should just pretend it’s an earthquake drill and do the exercise anyway, because the same reactions really truly would be useful then.
