I would guess that if someone moved too close to the idea of a nuclear war, the paymasters of the conservative party would end that really quickly.

There is no money to be made in a smoking cinder of a planet, regardless of any so-called Armageddon the religious wingnuts might want.

And the real paymasters of the party (e.g. Koch bros) are not religious zealots. They are not looking for the end of civilization but in maximizing their profits. They may destroy this planet — but through environmental catastrophe and not nuclear war.
