Huckabee’s remarks should raise caution flags for anyone watching the presidential race. A candidate who says he can’t relate to anyone not of his ilk is not someone who should or could represent the people of the USA. He’s being a rural snob, and that’s just as bad as an urban snob.

It reflects a wider malaise: I always thought that politics was about winning people over to your arguments. But political discourse is degenerating into mere labeling and name-calling: anyone who disagrees with you is a loser, a slacker, a moocher, an Islamist/terrorist sympathizer, a communist/fascist, a bigot, a feminazi, a moonbat, a wingnut, etc…
