It is, but the judge can make an exception if he feels there are extenuating circumstances, which is what he did here.

The only consolation from this fucked up case is that the 6 month pittance of a sentence has generated a huge bowl back, which means the little shit will never be anonymous again. If he had got what he deserved it would have been a single media cycle and he would then be forgotten by most. Now he more people have taken notice.

I’m not wiping a single solitary tear from my cheek over him.
