This is why plea bargaining is so common. Both prosecutors and defense attorneys know that no amount of vetting, evidence, or logic can prevent some juries from coming up with batshit insane verdicts.
A lawyer I worked with had an observation on point:
1) If you try a 100% certain slam dunk case to a jury, you have an 80% chance of winning.
2) There are no 100% certain slam dunk cases.
