re: #81 HappyWarrior

People form both sides won’t admit it but the two have a lot in common, Cleveland and Pittsburgh. I still have some distant relatives left in the Cleveland area on the Irish side.

I was actually talking about Mansfield…home of Islay’s Dairy. (Tossed that in for Deb)

At one time it was about as big and industrial as Youngstown but stopped growing after WW2. Still was going strong up until the 70s when a lot of the manufacturing started going away.

We had a Westinghouse factory that was probably as large as they were in Pittsburgh. It took up many blocks of north Mansfield. I still remember the huge Westinghouse sign that lit up that part of town.

We also had Tappan Appliances, Fisher Body, Borg Warner, Empire Reeves Steel, Ohio Brass (casting), Mansfield Tire (made off-brand tires for people like Sears, Wards, J.C. Penneys Auto shops, etc.

Now, it is the exact definition of rust belt city…down on it’s knees.

Found an image of Westinghouse and the big sign. This picture is only the one main building. There were probably 6 big buildings, railroad tracks, etc.

You can be sure if it is Westinghouse!
