They might for their own families or close friends. “Who harassed you? I’ll go over and beat his ass.” Someone they don’t know? Well, that takes empathy for another’s feelings.

Thing is, I don’t even need empathy per se for that. “Do I want to be treated that way?” No. Therefore, I don’t treat others that way. It’s pretty simple. I really don’t understand how hard this is. It isn’t just culture (though that certainly plays a part). It doesn’t even have to be an overt determination to harass someone; just not thinking about “what I want to do.”
