The concern seems to have been some isolated natural reservoir somewhere. Reference samples would speed the response. That thinking might have been valid 30 yrs ago. The UK also had a research sample and had an accident with it, IIRC.

Isn’t there a storehouse of pathogens buried in the arctic climes of Greenland that are about to be exposed due to warming? I guess I could google, but what’s the fun in that?
