re: #83 Flyovercountry

Personally, I still believe Romney, Guilianni, Gingrich, and other elected, or one time elected leaders will emerge as the head of the conservative movement.

Rudy and Newt have too much baggage, imo, to serve as national elected leaders. I think Newt would serve the GOP best as head of the RNC- where he can develop some leadership training, as it’s sorely needed. He’s also written quite a bit concerning energy and science- he accepts AGW. He’s the sort of leader we need behind the scenes getting the GOP back on track.

Rudy is considering a run for NY governor, and should he do that and win, would be in a great position to help with the governors interests.

This leaves Mitt. At this point, he’s the person I’m looking at to steer the GOP away from the fringes. Someone else might come along who could be better, but at this point, I don’t see who. I think his winning the nomination in 2012 could be a stake through the heart of the theocratic wing of the far right. If for nothing else- it would be worth getting him the nomination just to put these people in their place.
