In the end it’s really the same thing. Once the doctors’ only source of income becomes the the government (by was of insurance payments) then it’s really the same as socialized medicine. The only difference is they receive money through a government insurance agency instead of just getting a direct paycheck.

Yep. My town has a lot of retirees on Medicare. We also generally have a shortage of physicians, and some of the ones we do have don’t take Medicare. The reasons are 1) the paperwork is horrendous and 2) the payments for DRG’s are usually insufficient. I can actually envision our physician shortage becoming a national trend.
