I actually mentally walked through what it would take to fake the microfilmed-newspaper-birth-announcements in hundreds of libraries (public libraries and universities.)

Those microfilms were undoubtedly put together by a service, rather than each library individually. If this is the case, you need an inside man at the company, because the librarians do NOT let you leave with those microfilms. You’d have to create an authentic mock-up with just the one change, then copy that several hundred times, then send operatives to each of those libraries to make the swap.

If the libraries made the microfilms individually, it would be impossible. You can’t take the microfilms out to make the copy.
