Ross Douthat is trying to be the good cop to Wayne LaPierre’s bad cop. The whole right wing universe is currently triangulating, trying to find the right talking points to make people forget the horror of Newtown.

That’s the purpose of the David Gregory fake outrage, too.

You are in error, Charles. Douthat knows much of the right is behaving stupidly, but like me he does not know how to make them stop.
