This reasoning makes no sense at all. The minimum wage now is so low that there is little incentive for a person on welfare to work minimum wage, because as soon as they start working they risk losing AFDC and WIC benefits, and if a mother, shelling out money for daycare. If the minimum wage were higher, it would help get people off welfare. Yet, raising the minimum seems to be a non-starter issue in Congress now.
What the difference between a Liberal and a Conservative?
A Liberal, on hearing that (whether or not it is even true) welfare pays more than a minimum wage job, thinks: “Raise the Minimum Wage!”
A Conservative, hearing the same thing, thinks “Eliminate teh welfares, & lower teh minimum wage!!!!1!!!!”
