It goes back to Ronald Reagan’s anti-government statements such as the worst words in the English language are I’m from the government and I’m here to help you.

The training of movement conservatism for decades has been my ignorance of governance is better than your knowledge of it.

I would love to have been with the captain of the USS Ronald Reagan when it was sent to offer Tsunami aid to Japan and he came to present his credentials and announce tht he was from the US government and there to help.

There as just an article in Slate about the real-life ideology behind those quips: that people in government have no interest beyond advancing their careers and expanding their powers. Now without some degree of merit, but a caricature nonetheless.

And at least public servants are expected to have a public record that is open to scrutiny.
