Yep. Screams fake. Not that I have pentested wingnut sites, but from word of mouth I’ve heard they’re generally poorly protected and configured, so it would not take an elite team to compromise a site, a determined and somewhat skilled skriptkiddie would suffice.
The use of all caps in the message screams fake also, as does the use of an article to “hack”. The Anonymous activists that target right-wing sites would have defaced the front page, maybe nuked the entire site or planted more than one article that take time to discover that they are planted.
What I think has happened is that their hosting provider has grown tired of complaints over email and DDoS attacks on the site. The latter can be a reason why they’ve decided to pull the plug, as one server in their racks can more than likely handle more than one site, so if there is big and persistent DDoS attack on the site, more than one customer will be affected.
Just my $.02 worth.
