One of the new Democratic Congress’s first items should be a bill to abolish private prisons. The very idea should offend any decent person. Only the state has the right to imprison people, so only the state should have responsibility for them. Private profit from incarceration encourages incarceration and is inherently unjust. There are people who lobby for longer sentences specifically to increase the profits of these slave-dealers. That is abomination and must come to a screeching halt.

Texas IS turning blue but defeating the monsters at the polls will not be enough. Payback must be comprehensive, harsh, and permanent. The policy of reconciliation after the Civil War was a dreadful mistake, a kindness to the cruel that has brought endless cruelty to the innocent, right up to the present day. Don’t repeat that mistake.
