The problem with the Bolton explanation is that the NYT story has Maggie on the byline, and she’s too dedicated to being Donny’s fluffer to risk her access to palace intrigue circuit by being Bolton’s puppet. And even if you say “Well, Bolton relayed it through a third party,” she’d still feel compelled to call up her sources closer to the Don to corroborate.

I might agree with you except they Maggie has been brutal to trump after he asked Russia for help again.

Could be. Maybe not. But trump and strategy in the same sentence is like oil and water… They just don’t go together.
