To the disheartened Kentucky voter

So let’s just be clear here, dude.

Let’s say you were so spectacularly gullible that you actually believed a narcissistic serial fraudster whose entire claim to fame was playing an asshole boss on TV and gaudy wealth built on ripping off people poorer than him, declaring bankruptcy repeatedly, and open admissions of bribery. All of that was easily accessible public-record knowledge, and any remotely informed voter should have been able to figure out he was a narcissist who has never done anything for anyone other than himself.

But let’s say you really are that bad at life that you couldn’t figure that out.

And let’s also say you are so incompetent at information gathering that you could not figure out that he contradicted himself from one speech or interview to the next. You have the memory of a goldfish, sure, not your fault.

Let’s also say that your BS detector is so completely broken that you couldn’t tell he was a lying asshole just by listening to him talk. Sure, his smarmy word-salad lies are so obvious to me it’s literally unpleasant to listen to him talk, even when the topic isn’t something awful, but let’s give you the benefit of the doubt and say that you are so bad at life you literally cannot tell when someone is lying to you.

Even then, that means you listened to a man who blamed every problem in the country on immigrants, insulted “Mexicans” left and right, insulted people of color, insulted Muslims, insulted the parents of people who died serving the country, mocked prisoners of war for being prisoners of war, mocked the handicapped, insulted women, encouraged violence against protesters, and gleefully professed an outright hatred of the First Amendment and freedom of the press.

You looked at a guy who promoted, reveled in, and used as one of his central rhetorical platforms xenophobia, racism, religious bigotry, authoritarianism, misogyny, violence, and all-around assholery, and you said “I’m okay with this.” You looked at a proto-fascist extolling fundamentally un-American ideals and said “he says he’ll give me a job”.

So even if we assume you are spectacularly gullible, ignorant, and willfully uninformed, we still have no choice but to accept that if you believed Trump was going to follow through on his grand promises that benefitted you, he would also follow through on all the terrible, racist, xenophobic, unAmerican things he promised with just as much vigor.

So yeah, sorry, even if I give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you were suckered, you are still a proto-fascist-enabling asshole. We all have to live with what you wrought, you’d damn well better suffer too.

Maybe next time around you’ll pay just a little more attention, and with any luck also vote for someone who isn’t a spectacular asshole in every way shape and form.
