I did as well. That was one part of Hillbilly Elegy that I appreciated: that Appalachian whites were as distinct an ethnic group as the Latinos and blacks on our street. They were white, but not the same kind of “white” as the Eastern European or WASP whites.

Yeah out here we have people who have been in the area a long time, children of transplants like my parents, & transplants/immigrants.
