re: #95 Riptides

Been watching this on and off past few hours and the last time I looked I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I was wondering at the chance that not only would they cause more leaks, but they may also cause enough down pressure to dislodge any debris that may have been stemming the flow.

The mud can cut steel at this pressure, no question that it is eroding the holes at the top of the BOP. It is likely eroding the hole/pathway inside the BOP as well. I’m not sure about any effect all this is having down-hole. But it certainly could create a rupture near the surface.

Should this fail, there will definitely be a worse leak at the risers, but this doesn’t matter as the next step is to cut them off right above the stack but below the leaks.

The water is cloudy from all the mud, which is about twice the weight of the water. The oil/gas on the other hand rises. First they need to overcome the well pressure, with only mud leaking out. Then they try to force the mud down the well.
