re: #99 allegro

I left that out on purpose. My heart does break for those you who will never understand the meaning of the American Dream. It really was real once. (Now, I’m sounding like King Arthur dying at the end of the Once and Future King). I got a piece of it, especially as a young woman with so many more opportunities than my mother and those women before had, but it started to crater with Reagan. It had a last gasp in the 90s under Clinton, though even then was being terminally strangled.

It wasn’t really Reagan, it was a whole bunch of factors that had been building since the 60’s and now have to be dealt with. My own generation is going to have to mostly work at getting by instead of getting ahead, and dealing with such problems as we can fix. America plateauing was inevitable at some point. the question now is do we go up or down from the plateau, and that question’s answer is years away.
