Seems to me he’s basically trying to say: Isn’t it ironic (dontcha think) that Charles criticizes the people he once considered allies with some of the same arguments he would have considered “moonbatty” back then.

People change.

For example, I was always thought that even though I don’t always agree with conservatives/Republicans, their views were as valid as mine even though they differed.

Then I started actually talking to them.
