Underlying this outrage is the idea that there should be different standards of guilt for different kinds of folk.

This is just a different version of the same differance Trump evoked when he declared the Central Park Five a priori guilty and deserving of death, and that plays out every fucking time the color chart is pulled out after a mass killing.

The rule behind the rule is that “the law” applies as the wingnuts demand. Which explains their simultaneous fear of a police state and cheering of police state tactics so long as they’re applied to The Wrong Kind of People. It also applies to the connected issue of who gets to use a firearm how, and who’s a “threat” that can be killed outright.
