Looking from the outside, the whole Dolezal affair strikes me as someone desperate to escape one fantasy and creates another.

Among its other attributes, the real world can be really boring for long stretches.

Over the years I have met people like Dolezal, who work really, really hard at trying to be something they never were. I’m not going to judge them (morally) about that, but I do know that it’s a lot of work. I prefer to just be boring old me.
