As others pointed out, and I went and read the 12th amendment to research, the electors could vote for anyone they want. So, yeah, all the electors from states that are won by Republicans could get together and vote for anyone for president, and then vote for anyone for vice president.

Many states have laws in place that require the electors to vote for the candidate they were selected for.

So while the XII Amendment in theory allows an elector to vote for whomever he wants, the reality is that “faithless electors” can only occur in a couple states, and have only occurred a handful of times in history.

If electors tried to dump Mr. Trump, the complaints Mr. Trump made of “the election might be stolen” would be all too real for Trump’s supporters.

Unless Trump dies or withdraws, the GOP is stuck with Trump. In the event he won, they could try impeaching him, but why would they?
