re: #98 Patricia Kayden

Hopefully this November, Congress will flip so that Democrats will be in a position to do something about Mueller’s investigation. Trump isn’t popular enough to walk away unscathed from any negative findings.

Well, not to be too much of a downer on a sunny (if chilly) Sunday morning, but even assuming a “blue wave” in November, the prospects for the government (and the country) still aren’t that great*. On a practical level, the most optimistic scenario likely for Congress is a “flip” to the Democrats: but one without a large-enough majority to seriously do much. And given that Donald Trump has already indicated that he only views “legitimate” elections as those he wins, I’m guessing that a President Trump** and the GOP, faced with an “opposition” 116th Congress are going to indulge in a campaign of scorched-earth obstructionism, obsessive veto-mongering, and Executive-Branch diktat that will make the 115th seem like the Era Of Good Feelings in retrospect. And of course, blaming the Democrats (Obama, Hillary, Fake News, etc…) for any and all problems. Fun times ahead.

*and won’t be until the Republicans are reduced - a la California - to a powerless minority.

** A President Pence might be another matter….
