That’s the thing, it could be a nice revenue source for municipalities, counties, states and federal, renting out space in comms and power infrastructure networks. The start could be as simple as instead of simply replacing poles etc. after a twister or storm roars by, bury utility tunnels and ducts with room to spare. Which has the added advantage of reducing cost next time a twister or storm strikes.

Our municipality is getting a competing ISP - the village rented space to a wireless Internet operator for equipment on our water tower.

About a week after they installed their equipment it was destroyed by the May 10 tornado. They are in the process of replacing the equipment.

Perhaps when they get their service up and running our telephone company will lower their prices.
