This is the same source of ignorance in both cases. If there is no Colorado primary, how is anyone going to vote in it. “The primary” is just something that exists—in their minds—as part of the national election process. The concept that members of each party in each state get to choose who they want to represent them is beyond their comprehension.

Except in the case of the Colorado GOP the vast majority of its members didn’t get any say whatsoever. It was far worse than even a traditional caucus in that the candidate preferences of those who showed up at the precinct level did not count towards the delegate allocation at all.
