One can overdose on water. There are stories in which people have taken in too much water and have died.

There is a famous story of the court jester in Heidelberg who put away up to fourteen bottles of wine a day. He grabbed a pitcher, thinking it was wine, and downed it in one gulp as was his habit, it turned out to be water and he died of oedema.
