Yeah, the blockchain is designed in part to prevent random people from creating fake Bitcoins, because the fakes would be rejected by the network. To game the blockchain would require capturing 51% of the hashpower, which now would be virtually impossible (unless you were famously rich and could buy out the largest mining outfits).

and I read that hacking it would involve breaking into thousands of separate computers simultaneously…
