Enough flight power with jump to get 6-8’ up into trees to avoid critters and climb steep slopes effectively. I’ve seen a flock do that to avoid a cat running through them in a gully once. Jumped/flew up into low tree branches one after another.

Chickens do the same. A jump/flap thing to get higher up then you think they can. And some breeds are better at it than others.
