There will always be hobbyists. But supplies will always be difficult to find going forward.
Sure, if you live in a major urban area you might find a local camera store stock a few film supplies, but developing and printing one’s one silver photography requires lots of stuff. A darkroom is needed, and even if one converts a bathroom there is still a ton of stuff needed.
Digital will never equal the texture of film, but it’s getting better. Yet, it’s a lot easier and cheaper to use. I had a darkroom when I was younger, and I loved working in it. But I can make photos of near-equal quality at a fraction of the cost and time with digital, so it’s a no-brainer to me.
