In 1965, my mom had twins. We knew 2 were coming, but not genders, so we had 4 names to pick. Mom had the first girl’s name picked (her aunt who had twins and named one for my mom) and she went with my pick for the second girl. We got two girls and the craziest has the name I picked. I regret what I have done to that name.

When I went off to college, my twin sisters named their cat after me. (‘They miss you!’ my parents said.) Turn out to be a tom. They loved to call it out by name to get off the couch when I came home, which happened less and less.

I got to choose the nickname for my first sister. (The second only had one real option.)

That was probably the right level of decision making to give to a 4 year old anyway.
