There are a whole lot of black people who are part of the Democratic coalition. A lot of them are probably dealing with the idea that a minority might have more trouble in the general election, but this comment completely ignores how much influence they have.

I mean…that’s generally true of the past few elections too. But it’s still clear that even post-Obama, candidates of color struggle far more than their white counterparts despite similar resumes and appeal otherwise, not to mention that the anti-“identity politics” brigade for the most part seems to be winning, between media ratfucking, ‘economics only’ politics, and (once again) battered pragmatism.

It just seems sadly fitting and infinitely frustrating that those who need to and deserve to advocate more and be loudest about needing to be represented are the first to compromise tend to be the ones that are forced to compromise first just because they’re the first to feel the worst, when the worst comes. Meanwhile those who are the loudest and most strident tend to end up the ones most insulated if/when the worst comes to pass.
