I’m a Black American, and the sudden concern that right-wingers seem to have for Black Americans amuses me. These are the same people that think that doing anything that helps certain members of this society to get ahead is an “entitlement.” Black Americans are used to making it through tough times because many of us have always had to. If these folks think that talking about the 14% unemployment rate of Black Americans is going to cause a majority of us to turn against the president, they need to think again. We know we’d fare even worse under a republican president and a Congress with a republican majority. We’re not as stupid as they think we are, and I think that is why they get so frustrated that a majority of us won’t vote for republican politicians. We vote for politicians for the same reason they do: we vote for the candidate whose vision/policies are similar to own. I grew up in 1950s America under segregation, and the reason I don’t vote for republicans is because of the way they denigrate all Americans who don’t embrace their positions and vision for the nation. I refuse to allow hatred of others or religion to persuade me to vote for those whom I know have no real love for our country, and whose main goal is to transform it into a plutocracy.
