I actually don’t think he’s pandering. He’s a genuine creationist, but he’s also enough of a politician to know that coming right out and saying it would have some negative consequences. So he tries to straddle the line and avoid telling the truth.

I don’t know. Maybe I’d actually have to hear the interview but he just comes across as pandering to me in the text. Of course, pandering or sincere, whatever, this is still not an attitude we want to see from any elected official.
