Agreed. Businesses are most often created and motivated to act with absolute ruthlessness with respect to the bottom line, especially if there is VC investment involved. “Selling out the customers” in this context is a logical impossibility —- like talking about the spherical cube.

Of course, if a person acts like such a business, sociopathy is the usual verdict. Strange that we accept collective sociopathy across a huge chunk of the private sector.
