The thing is, they really mean well by it, at least as far as I can tell. It’s the presumption that we’re on the same page that bothers me. I’d like to answer with “Mangalam” (a Buddhist wish for more or less the same thing) or maybe even “Insh’allah” (Arabic meaning roughly “If God wills it”), but the effort would be wasted. These folk don’t really hear anything different from what they hear at church and Bible study, and if they do happen to hear such a thing, it’s from the devil.

I am reminded that the contraction “Good Bye” was from Harvard students in the 1600s who were too lazy to say “God be with you” & “And with thy spirit “. PO’d their elders but as always in English, expediency won out in the long run.
