I had an old Thirties gas oven (which required putting a match to a touch hole to start the oven).

One time trying to light the oven, apparently the valve had not been completely closed and gas had built up around the burners. When I put a match to the touch hole, woomph! Flame shot out of the whole oven.

Much of my hair was singed. Fortunately it didn’t catch fire. I still had eyebrows. I got rid of that oven.
