re: #52 The Major

Her “going backward” really means that LGBT people are accepted in society in ways undreamed of in 1987 (seriously, when I was in law school, we never thought that “sodomy” would be legalized by the Supreme Court in 2003, nor that we’d have same-sex marriage in 2015). And, of course, women can continue to make the choice to have an abortion.

In her world, LGBT people would be in the closet and women would be getting dangerous backroom abortions. That’s all she cares about.

ETA: I had to chew out a pastor I like on Twitter last night because he was talking about how abortion was forbidden in the Didache. I pointed out the writer(s) of the Didache had no idea of the human reproductive cycle (“biology” then posited women contributed nothing to the pregnancy but a good attitude and the human ova wasn’t discovered until 1928 —not a typo); women were not involved in the writing of scripture for the most part, and even though the Didache came out in 100 AD or thereabouts, women continued and continue to get abortions. I was surprised I actually got some likes on this, because challenging someone on abortion is pretty fraught on Twitter.
