Wired is killing it today with stories about how tech has contributed to the uglification of our culture. Viz:

Those autocompletes just happen because a significant portion of Google users are scum. It’s hard to police large numbers of scumbags. Google would have to guess problematic searches in advance to filter them.

If an Internet death-penalty was possible, the mess could be cleaned up by banning scumbags, but it’s not possible.
