I am assuming here the only casualties that are important in the eyes of the US public are US troops who suffer at the hands of surly ungrateful natives (see also British Empire in times past). Lt. Calley was not a casualty of the Vietnam War, indeed he is still regarded as a hero by some US citizens who regard his incarceration and later house arrest unjust and cruel.

The issue with Calley is not that he was incarcerated, it is that the criminals who put him there escaped prosecution.
