For some reason, while discussing performative theater, I was reminded of this story:
Years ago, when I was in the Army, I mentioned to my father, (who was a World War 2 twice-wounded combat veteran), that the enlisted seem to complain a lot.
He went silent and got a far away look.
Then he turned to me and said to me “As long as they complain, it’s a good sign. If they ever get quiet, that’s a very bad sign. It means that they have decided to do something about their complaints.”
