I think your memory is selective. I recall Bush was pretty hostile to the media in general.

The media picked many fights with Bush over his 8 years in office. Erin Burnett of CNBC called him a “monkey” on the air. Bush may have had issues with NBC, but he didn’t go through this repeated public whining, and certainly he didn’t do it after just 9 months in office. Dubya’s skin was far thicker than “44’s” appears to be.
