New York is stealing the Native American made cigarettes being shipped to other Native American reservations, the value of the cigarettes is $2,073,600. The state taxes calculated on such a load is $1,127,520, according to lawyers for the state.
Last time NY tried this, the Native Americans threw burning tires on the NYS Thruway, shutting it down.

I note from the article that the aggressive DA in these cases is from neighboring St Lawrence County, not Franklin County where the part of the St Regis Reservation where the cigarettes are manufactored is.

No idea what the area looks like now. My family moved from up that way over 30 years ago. Back then it was a few towns with some industry (mainly along the St. Lawrence Seaway) surrounded by lots of small towns running family-level dairy operations (corn and cows). Fewer farms and a bit more tourism as you got over into the Andirondacks.
