Yeah but there is clearly a future in robots taking over more functions in the military. And there will be enormous benefits both in lower costs and fewer injuries and deaths of soldiers. Industry has been transformed already, the military is next.

Some things will be changed, but it will depend on who is being fought and in what circumstances. Some the drone systems used against the Taliban could not be used against Iran, because Iran has countermeasures powerful enough to detect and/or destroy them. But even then, recon drones would still provide invaluable service, as would those intended to counter-IEDs. We already use Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUVs) to detect and destroy mines, and some of the UUV exercises run recently were clearly aimed at a possible Iranian threat.
